Thank you for coming back to our Main Street Melfort website.
We have recently asked urban design professionals to help us recognize and implement the changes required in order to help revitalize our downtown core. We have approached this through a Request for Proposal (RFP) aided by a grant from the Province of Saskatchewan’s Main Street Program.
The RFP brought in an incredible eleven responses and we narrowed the decision to two firms. After presentations from the two firms, we have decided on Cushing Terrell Architecture Inc. to lead Main Street Melfort throughout the visioning process.
Our timelines for implementation of this proposal are very tight. We have already had our first Main Street Visioning workshop on November 12. Initial impressions, thoughts and ideas will be depicted visually by January, followed by a Main Street Town Hall Workshop in February 2016 and a Main Street Open House Presentation April 2016. Whew! That’s a lot of work in a few short months. Creating the overall look and feel of the downtown is a large aspect of what Cushing Terrell will bring to the table, and it is very exciting to know that this project is a major step in the revitalization project.
Besides our Visioning program, our Economic Restructuring committee is busy surveying both businesses and building owners of Melfort. These surveys are being undertaken as a way of learning and understanding what we (Main Street Melfort and Building/Business Owners) can do with our downtown core, how we can revitalize our existing businesses and how we can draw new businesses to our economy. We have attached the survey to this website if you would like to complete it yourself. We do ask that you leave your name and number to ensure we have viable information, and in the event of follow up questions. This is all a necessary part of involving the public and ensuring that we create a downtown that fits the wants and needs of our residents.
Come to Main Street on the evening of Black Friday (November 27) and enjoy the Christmas decorations at Memorial Garden. This joint effort between Main Street Melfort, The Chamber of Commerce, and the Melfort Mall will involve hayrides from the Christmas tree to the Melfort Mall free of charge. The rides will be on-going from 4 – 6 and will wander through the back alleys. Hot chocolate will be available to everyone at the Historic Post Office.
Come to the Legion December 2, from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Join other businesses in an opportunity to network, share ideas for the Main Street Zone, and learn how to get your business visible on Google Maps. There will be a cash bar on site, and light snacks will be provided.
Come to Main Street Melfort for all your Christmas and entertaining shopping needs.
